Rhymes
experimental, in progress
These were all shot with a lovely plasticky film camera, the Kodak Ektar H35. It’s half frame, meaning it does two pictures in the space of one. For that, it is a joy to play with pairs, the scans coming out as diptychs naturally. With time, I’ve been gathering fun rhymes and happy accidents, and this is slowly becoming a body of work and a constant exercise of seeing.
The limitations are a big part of the experience. Aperture, speed, focus – nothing can be adjusted, it’s all fixed. Strangely, it’s freeing. Additionally, it needs a lot of light, which makes it the camera for the sunny summer days.
I use it to rhyme with my partner too, the camera changing hands as we explore the world. There are photos here that are hers actually, but we’ve lost track at some point. I’d say this is a beautiful way of photographing.
